  • Winter Activities

    Mt. Tahoma Nordic Trail System
    The Mount Tahoma Trails Association is an all volunteer organization, dedicated to providing the public with safe and affordable winter backcountry experiences. Volunteers maintain over 40 miles of trails, 20 miles of which are groomed regularly for cross country skiing. The Trails link four warming huts, which are popular destinations.
    Mt. Rainier Snowshoeing Trails
    See Rainier in winter. Choose from easy (the .4 mile Twin Firs Loop) to strenuous (the trail to Camp Muir) hikes.

    Paradise Snowplay Area
    Sliding and sledding in the park is permitted ONLY in the designated snowplay area.

    Sahara Horse Camp is located 5 miles out of Elbe toward Ashford just past mile post 5 on the left side of the highway. This camp has two handicapped camping sites, a ramp for wheelchairs, a restroom facility and water for human and horse.

    On your way to the west entrance to Mount Rainier National Park, stop and visit Dan's iron sculpture park titled Ex-Nihilo (pronounced "Ex Nee-Hill-o" - one of several ways to pronounce it according to Webster's!) which means something created from out of nothing in Latin. Ex-Nihilo is located right alongside State Route 706. Kids will love the dinosaurs, sea creatures and animals crafted from materials found in recycling bins, abandoned farms and junkyards.

    Historic steam train excursion through the foothills of Mount Rainier. Experience train travel as it was in the early century.
